Latin Project

Week beginning 18th May 2020

Salvete Omnes! Hope everyone had a lovely weekend. I would like to thank all the children that are submitting their work through the class website. It has been wonderful to see your work and it is the highlight of my week!

This weeks activity is learning about a Roman soldiers life.

If you remember in the book Iulius wants to become a soldier like his father but is still too young. This week I would like you to research what a Roman soldier wore and what his life would have been like. See the link which has a diagram of a soldier, if you click on each named piece of equipment it tells you what they are and their purpose.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwmpfg8/articles/zqbnfg8

1) I would then like you to draw a picture of a soldier and replace the English for the Latin words

Here are a list of the words :  Sword= gladius     Javelin= pilum    shield = scutum   helmet =galea

breast plate = lorica    tunic = tunica   dagger = pugio

2) What would life have been like for a Roman soldier? Write four facts

3) Compare the Roman Army and soldiers life to our modern army what is similar and what is different make a list.

Have fun and I look forward in seeing your work.

Week beginning 11th May 2020

Salvete omnes!

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend. I would like to thank everyone that has sent in work via the class email, it has been great to see all your creativity!

This weeks work is about Roman Gods/Goddesses. Here is a list of Greek Gods I would like you to find out their Roman equivalent. The first one has been done for you.

Greek Name                Roman name

Zeus                              Jupiter

Hera

Artemis

Apollo

Poseidon

Hermes

Aphrodite

Ares

Athena

Hades

You may recognise the Greek Gods as they have featured in many movies such as Percy Jackson, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and many comics.

Then I would like you to draw a picture of one of the Roman Gods/Goddesses and 5 facts about them.

When naming the Roman gods I wonder if you notice a commonality in some of them?

Have a great week! I look forward in seeing your work - don't forget you can email it to your class website.
