Wednesday

Remember today it is also important to:

  • Get active!  (Joe Wicks work out, running, bouncing, obstacle courses, football, go on a walk or a bike ride – so many ways to keep moving)!
  • Read for at least 20 minutes.

This week we would like ALL children in Maple class to take time and look at the phonics.

We are going to ‘check in’ and see how our spelling is progressing and what sounds we are missing and could do with looking at further.

So parents I have typed up a spelling test (assessment). One list is ‘mild challenge’ and the other is ‘medium challenge’. Choose which one together with your child. Use this as an opportunity to see where your child has gaps. Make a note of which sounds they are missing or writing incorrectly. (My daughter who is also 7 years of age really gets muddled with the ‘igh’ sound and writes some bizarre alternatives. So I am helping her with this also.)

Say the word in your chosen list and ask your child to write that word.

Now is a good time to talk about if the word ‘looks’ right to them if they hard hesitating and wanting your help. Try not to tell them how its spelt but encourage that independent, critical thinking about their own work.

Maths

Warm-up –

Count backwards in 10s from 106 to 6, using fun actions if you can! Can you write the sequence?

Today we are comparing measurements.

Watch the video clip at the bottom of the page. You may find it helpful in showing you how to compare lengths. There is a challenge at the start that I thought was VERY tricky, so if you can answer some of those questions you are doing brilliantly!!

There is a sheet that you can print off at the bottom of this page. If you don’t have a printer, try some of my challenges below, by talking about them with someone in your family, or write the questions and answers in your book. Remember Cranky Croc eats the BIGGEST measurement!

Put the croc symbol (< or >) or = symbol in between the two measurements:

14cm        <       41cm

23cm                 13cm

93cm                 1 metre

25cm                 53cm

100cm                1 m

3 metres              30cm

120cm                  1 metre

400cm                  5 metres

Can you make some of your own?

If you feel like being creative today, can you draw a house and measure the sides and the windows?

Learning Theme - DT

For the rest of the week, we are going to be designing and making a bird feeder for our gardens, front drives, grandparent’s gardens or even our bedrooms for pretend birds if you don’t have a garden.

Today, draw a design for your bird feeder. Label your design with materials you will need.

Here are some examples of different bird feeders. There are also some links to video clips that give tips about how they can be made, but remember today is just about drawing a design, and perhaps gathering materials. There are lots of different ways to make a bird feeder, you might even find other ideas online.
