It’s really great to get moving in the mornings so that you feel ready to learn and able to concentrate.
Spellings – Remember to practise for 10 minutes today at least.
Are you remembering to practise your spellings? Ask an adult to test you on 10-15 of the key Year 3 and 4 words each day this week. I wonder how many you know off by heart.
Information Writing / Non-Chronological Reports
This week, we are working on information writing. We are going to focus on sports or other hobbies and going read and write about a sport or hobby we enjoy.
If I was writing my own leaflet, I would probably choose running or outdoor swimming, but you could choose a sport like football, tennis, horse riding or a hobby like playing chess or cooking or making models.
Yesterday, you made notes on your chosen activity. I am leaving the weblinks below in case you need help finding out a little more or looking something up.
Today, I would like you to plan out your information leaflet.
You may need to think about the following things:
Decide which headings you are going to use.
How are you going to arrange your pages?
Are you going to use a folding format? More than one page?
Are you going to write by hand or on a computer?
Where are your illustrations going to go?
Will you use drawings or print off some photos? You could take photos of yourself doing the activity!
Will you include any special fact boxes?
How can you engage your reader?
Map out your information leaflet on paper in draft and begin to write each paragraph and decide how the page looks. This is where it is easiest to make changes.

Think. There are 56 possible answers, but A and C will add to make 8, e.g. 1 and 7, and B and D will have a total of 11, e.g. 12 + 79, 13 + 78, … 22 + 69, … etc.
Today we are going to do some more mental addition or subtraction.
Choose your level as you did yesterday.
Write out the questions in your maths book using one digit per box, and then calculate the answer mentally.
Twinkl has a massive range of maths worksheets available if you wish to supplement the daily class maths.
Maths Salamander also has a host of activities to try, some of which you can do from a screen or print off.
The White Rose website has stopped providing free worksheets for children, though you can still access the video clips for free tutorials on a theme.
Science for Wednesday and Thursday
In our learning on plants, we have covered parts of a plant and flower and pollination.
This week, let’s look at the life cycle of a flowering plant.

Now read the PowerPoint below and look at the diagram.
Draw the diagram in a circle showing the different stages in the lifecycle.
To go further, write a short explanation for each stage. You may wish to use headings, like these: germination; growth; flowering plant; pollination; seeds

Watch Newsround and discuss what is happening in the wider world. Talk to your family about the stories which are on today. What do you think?
While you are focussing on your chosen sport or hobby this week, you could practise your typing and word processing skills and make a short PowerPoint or Word poster showing your theme. With adult help, you can search some photos on the web to add to your presentation.
Art / Craft
It is Father’s Day on 21st June. Why not make a card for the special men in your family – Dad, Grandad, Uncle? Here are a couple of simple ideas. But a hand drawn card is always a lovely thing to receive!
Sharing Sport Interests - Encourage your child to ask different family members about their favourite sports and any sports they took part in growing up - were they a part of any clubs? Did they take part in any competitions? Did they win any trophies? They might find out something new about their family members!
Choose a physical activity that you will enjoy.
This might be:
- You can find Pav’s work out activities! You can find his workouts in the resources section. Have a look at Week 8.
- PE with Joe! (Joe Wicks’ daily workout on YouTube)
- Set up your own carousel – you could include running, jumping, kangaroo hops, mummy kicks, star jumps. Do 30 seconds of each in rotation, then repeat two or three times.
- How many laps of your garden can you run in 10 minutes? Can you continue without walking? If that is hard work, you could run one lap, and then walk one lap.
Reading: Aim for at least one of these each day.
- Read independently – this could be your own book or a book from the Bug Club books which also have activities to complete – comprehension questions and little quizzes.
- Twinkl and Oxford Owls also have a selection of eBooks you can read online, and you can also visit the Norfolk library service and "borrow" online books.
- Read to an adult or older sibling. Talk about your book and what you are enjoying. Can you read with really good expression and intonation? Can you use voices for the different characters?
- You can also read magazines, comics or newspapers – ask your parents for ideas of what else you could read. How about a recipe book, machine manual or instruction booklet?
- Remember to explore new vocabulary when you read. Can you look in a dictionary to find out what new words mean?
- Remember, you can keep a reading record at the back of your writing book if you like.
Spellings: aim for 10 minutes a day.
Practise some of the spelling words you need to learn.
Start with the Year one / two words and find out which ones you still need to learn. You can tick the ones you can spell off by heart. If you are confident with all of these, you can begin learning the Year 3 and 4 words.
Pick 4 or 5 a day and use LOOK-SAY-COVER-WRITE-CHECK to practise each one.
Times tables: aim for 10 minutes a day.
2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 8s and 10s for Year 3.
Year 4 – Your goal is to know all the times tables up to 12 x 12.
Write out the table you are learning from memory. Then ask an adult to muddle them up. Ask them to test you.
You can also play Hit the Button online, which is an easy and fun way to practise tables.
