Tuesday 14th July

Hello everyone,

Yesterday was a lovely day at school and we spent time outdoors playing lots of sports. Did you manage to enjoy spending some time outside too? How did you get on with the maths challenges? In school we are really enjoying these and the children have been showing lots of determination to solve the problems.

Did any of you take part in ‘Mapping Monday’? I have to admit there are many places in the world that I would love to visit but if I had to narrow it down to one choice, my dream destination would be a visit to the Angel Falls. See if you can find out which country the Angel Falls are in. Email me with your answer.

Today’s theme for Tuesday is: ‘Terrific Choice Tuesday.

What great choice will YOU make today?

Have a good day!

Tuesday's Learning tasks:

> Start your day with an Active Start. There are lots of options for you:

- Weekly challenge from Pav

- Joe Wicks – daily PE on Youtube

- Go Noodle also available on Youtube

- Imoves

- Or create your own PE session – for example, an obstacle course in the garden or lead a keep fit session with your family to your favourite tunes

> Read your book for 20 minutes. Or you could read a book from Bug Club. Bug club books are great because they have comprehension questions for you to answer too.

> Complete a maths quiz on diagnostic questions.

> Maths: This week for maths look in our Resources section for details.

> Further Maths to have a go at! Visit the White Rose website ‘Summer Term Week 12 (w/c 13th July) and complete Lesson 2 ‘Circles’.  Remember, if you are finding these too tricky you could look at a lower year group or if you need a greater challenge look at a higher year group instead. We do not have a subscription to the worksheets so this activity is just watching and discussing the video.

> Complete the word of the day activities - see below.

> Visit Active learn website and select a maths and a SPAG activity to complete.

> Today’s English -See document in Resources and Web Links section. There are a number of possible ideas for your writing today based on the theme ‘The End of Technology’. These include:

  • Write instructions about how to survive a day without technology.
  • Write a diary entry about your normal day, but think of alternative activities to replace the ones that require technology.
  • Write a letter to a child living in Tudor England, describing to them the technology we have today and how we use it. You could even write a response!
  • Write a balanced argument about whether technology is good or bad for us.

You may want to consider the questions on the document first to help you think of ideas. Extra activities include: ‘Sentence Challenge’, ‘Sick Sentences’ and ‘Perfect Picture’.

> Design Technology:

In our resources section you will find a document called ‘D&T’. There are over 20 challenges to choose from – these design technology tasks have been given to us by Cromer High School. Each week this will be your task that I will be setting on a Monday and Tuesday. We would love to see your creations. Have fun!

> Remember to build in some quiet time, creative time and outdoor time!

Have a good day!

Word of the day

  1. What is the definition of ‘elite’?
  2. Write 3 complex sentences using the WOD.
  3. Synonyms – (words that have a similar meaning)
  4. Antonyms – (words that have an opposite meaning)
  5. If we change elite to elitism we are adding the suffix ‘ism’, this means that it represents a type of practice, system or philosophy/way of thinking eg, vegetarianism. See how many you can find – don’t forget to underline the ‘ism’ in each word. Use a dictionary to look up the definitions so you understand what the words mean.

You will need a dictionary and thesaurus for these activities, if you don’t have one use an online dictionary and thesaurus.
