Thursday 11th June

Good morning!

If you haven’t been keeping up with the news then I suggest you have a look at Newsround today on the BBC iPlayer. There is a lot going on around the world at the moment, and it would be good for you to be informed about this by clicking on the link and watching today's news:

Please take a look at the MUSIC section of today’s learning. There is a great project for you to get your teeth into called, ‘Sounds of the Summer’.

Today’s theme for Thursday is: Three things Thursday

What are your three favourite things to do on a rainy day?

Let's hope it doesn't rain too much today, but if it does you can do your three favourite things!

Miss Barrett and Mrs Ashby

Thursday’s learning tasks:

Start your day with an active start. There are lots of options for you:

  • Weekly challenge from Pav
  • Norfolk  School Games Week 1
  • Joe Wicks – daily P.E on YouTube
  • Go Noodle – also available on YouTube
  • Imoves
  • Or create your own P.E session – for example, an obstacle course in the garden or lead a keep fit session with your family to your favourite tunes.

Read your book for 20 minutes. Or you could read a book from Bug Club. Bug club books are great because they have comprehension questions for you to answer too.

Complete a maths quiz on Diagnostic Questions

Maths - This week we are looking at ‘Investigations‘’. One of the skills of being a mathematician is to be able to work systematically and finding all the possibilities.

Complete the ‘Thu Maths - Spiral Investigation’. The answers are at the bottom of the page – no peeking until you need to mark!

Further Maths to have a go at! Visit the White Rose website ‘Summer Term Week 7 (w/c 8th June) and complete Lesson 4 ‘Solve simple one step equations’.

Complete the word of the day activities – see below.

Visit Active learn website and select a maths and a SPAG activity to complete.

Please continue with the writing challenge for the week: See document in Resources and Web Links section. Today you should be editing your work ready for a final draft tomorrow.

Music –

1) Please look at The Big Sing information sheet in the resources section of our website. Have a think about whether this is something you would like to take part in. If so then ask your parents to check their emails as I have sent a username and password for you all.  If you are going to take part in The Big Sing, then please log on and begin to learn the songs this week.

2) The Norfolk Music Hub would like children to take part in a project called Sounds of Summer.

The project incorporates you filming a nature scene for around 1 minute, which would then be used as inspiration for creating an original piece of music using instruments or vocals. You can then add your music to your film. The below link will give you more detailed information. Scroll down to find all instruction needed and the submission form. There are also examples for you to see:

Have fun!

Word of the day

  1. What is the definition of ‘panorama’?
  2. Write 3 sentences using the WOD and include a modal verb in each sentence.
  3. Research activity: What other words can you think of that begin with ‘pan’? The word pan is from Greek and means all/any/everyone. Make a list and underline the ‘pan’ part in each word that you find. Eg, pandemic. How many words can you find with pan? Make sure the words you find actually have this meaning.
  4. Using the letters in the word ‘Panorama’ – how many different words can you make?

Give yourself 1 point for 3 letter words, 2 points for 4 letter words and 3 points for 5 letter words or more. How many points can you score?
