Special Needs Co-ordinator 

We are looking for a highly motivated and inspirational teacher with experience and knowledge of SEND to join our team at Millfield. You will need to have a commitment to the school’s Millfield CARES values and vision and join our enthusiasm and drive for all to achieve within a happy, vibrant and inclusive environment.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of the leadership team who work closely together to provide the vision and strategic direction of the school. The role is dedicated to leading the provision for children with SEND across the school. We appreciate that this is a crucial and demanding role, and consequently there is no class responsibility attached to the post. The SENCO will be working in conjunction with class teachers and leading an excellent team of support assistants in ensuring that children’s needs are met within a supportive environment, enabling all children to achieve successful outcomes.

This post is suitable for an experienced teacher who is already working as a SENCO or someone who has a passion for SEND and is looking for a leadership role. It is an expectation that candidates who currently do not hold the National Qualification will undertake the relevant training once they take up their post.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about teaching and learning and skilful in working with pupils with a range of different needs
  • Has high expectations
  • Is passionate about inclusion enabling every child to fulfil their potential
  • Has experience of working with children with SEND and can demonstrate a good knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice
  • Has an ability to reflect on and develop their own practice as well as advise others on inclusive practice in the classrooms
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills including diplomacy, resilience and strategic thinking
  • Has a willingness to develop new ideas, show creativity and think ‘outside of the box’, relishing opportunities created by change
  • Is a team player who can contribute to the wider life of the school

The school will be closed to all pupils except children of key workers or vulnerable children who may attend for a mixture of educational and care based provision on weekdays between 8.50a.m. and 3.00p.m..
