We have had a fantastic first week in Reception. All of the Reception team have been impressed by how friendly and polite our new recruits are and especially how well they tidy up their toys at the end of the day. Everyone left on Friday with a smile on their face.
It's been great to meet so many of you and we are looking forward to meeting the rest. If you haven't yet signed up for a teacher's meeting, please do. We just want to introduce ourselves properly and to check that your child is settling in well.
Next week will be a little different, with the children staying for lunch and not leaving until 1pm. Please go over the lunch menu with your child, so that they know what to expect. We will ask them each day what they would like for lunch. If your child does not like any of the options for that day, you are welcome to send in a packed lunch from home. You can still also send a mid morning snack, although we can now provide one, so there is no need. We are trying to encourage the children to eat healthily, so please remember to send healthy options for lunch and snacks (NOT BANANAS), as well as water only for the water bottles.
Start time will remain at 9am until further notice. This is to reduce the congestion of people in the playground in the mornings, so you don't need to arrive much before 9am. If you have an older child, they can also arrive at 9am and will not be marked as late. Just make sure theycome through the main office, so they are not missed from their class register.
It would be helpful if you sent your child to school with a full change of clothes that can stay in school, just in case they need to change, as accidents do happen, as well as any medication that they might need in school.
Most of you have now accessed Tapestry. Let us know if you are still having problems. Some of you have already made entries, which is great to see.
The children were very proud of their new book bags! We will use this to send home any resources that we feel will help your child's learning. The first thing to go home was, of course, a reading book and reading record. Please read with your child as much as possible, not just school books. Without good reading skills, your child will struggle to access the rest of their learning and missout on some wonderful stories! Try to read at least three times a week, every day if possible. Discussing the stories also helps your child with their speaking and understanding. If you want any tips on how best to do this, just let us know. We will not be swapping reading books as often as we would like, as we have to leave "airing time" in between giving the book to the next child. There may be times when your child does not have a school reading book. Don't worry, read one of your own books instead, or you can access books online. See further down this page for useful links (Reading Resources). We will send home more resources, as time goes on.
As always, Reception children will have a staggered start to school, so will only be part time for the first three weeks. The times are as follows:
Week beginning 7th September - start 9am, home 12pm
Week beginning 14th - start 9am, home 1pm (stay for lunch)
Week beginning 21st - start 9am, home 1pm
Week beginning 28th - start 9am, home 3.15pm (from then on, this time to be confirmed)
We recommend you bring to school:
a wet weather coat;
a water bottle, containing water only please;
a change of clothing that can stay in school (accidents do happen!)
any medication needed in school.
See you Monday.
Mrs Harkin-Perry and Mrs Oakley
