Phonics

This week we are going to take look at spelling patterns.

Practise writing these words!

Phonics

Looking at the ‘l’ sound. Look at the different ways it is written at the end of words. Practise writing these words together then have a fun test at the end. Perhaps parents and children can take it in turns to become the teacher? I do hope the parents don’t make any mistakes and if they do, children remember to correct them!

English

Today you are going to use metaphors.

A metaphor is a device in descriptive writing. It compares something directly to something else, in order to create an image or resemblance (something which is similar). For example:

Her cheeks were on fire.

He had a heart of stone.

Can you make metaphors using the words and parts of sentences below. Just match the beginning to the ending that sounds right then write the complete sentence in your books.

The moon

is racing

My pulse

snake

Then train lines

is a white balloon

Life is a

tip

The rocks are like

journey

The room is a

jagged knifes

Can you make up your own metaphors now?

Mild

1 metaphor

Medium

2 metaphors

Hot

3 or more metaphors

Maths

Warm up

To get your brain ready for maths do some active counting (star jumps, bunny hops, stretches) chanting your times tables as you go!

Repeated addition

Today, we are looking at how multiplying and repeated addition are the same. There are some great games and resources on the BBC Daily lessons page, click the link below. There is also an optional worksheet at the bottom of the page.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zhchscw

If you can’t access the worksheet, have a go at our Maple challenge in your books:

This bar model shows:

6 x 5 = 30

5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 30

                                6 x 5 = 30
