Good morning Sycamore Class!

Active Start

Decide whether you are ready for an energetic start to the week with Joe Wicks or a dance workout with Oti Mabuse. Or perhaps you'd prefer a more peaceful start to help you to ease into the week with some Yoga from Cosmic Kids Yoga?

After a nice, active start, time to get focused!

Remember to try to spend a bit of time every day on these following activities:

  • Read for at least 30 minutes - As the weather is getting a bit nicer, perhaps you can spend a bit of time enjoying reading a book in the garden on a blanket? Perhaps you can write a book review once you have finished the book you are currently reading and send it to me by email?
  • Practice times tables for 20 minutes. Year 3’s, you should know: 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10 by the end of this school year.
  • Practice spellings for 15 minutes Choose 5 words a day to practice using look, cover, say, write, check. Highlight the words when you definitely know them.

Today I have something a little bit different for you, rather than a diary entry. If you have something that you would like to add to your diary entry, please do so J Perhaps you want to record something special that you have enjoyed etc?

This week, I am in school with the Key Worker Children group, so I thought that I would focus on a beautiful picture book. I think that you will all enjoy it too, so I decided to set you some work based on the book too!

The book is called, ‘Tell me a Dragon’ and it is by author and illustrator, Jackie Morris.

Here is a video clip of Jackie Morris reading her beautiful book. Please watch, enjoy and look carefully at the beautiful illustrations.

Then spend some time wondering and thinking about what your dragon would be like if you had one? Today I would like you to think about your dragon’s egg! How big is it? What colour is it? How do you keep it safe? Where do you keep it safe?

Then I would like you to draw and colour your egg carefully and then add sentences to your work to explain more to a reader about your dragon egg.

Here is the title page, illustrated by Jackie Morris, for you to see all the eggs in her book, for you to get some ideas from.

I look forward to seeing your creative, imaginative writing and illustrations today!

Last week, we spent our maths Home Learning Time, beginning our new unit, ’Addition and Subtraction’ and focusing on mental addition.

So, for today’s challenge I would like you to have a go at an activity which will build on your mental addition from last week as well as help you to practice some mental subtraction! So many of you enjoyed using money to help you with the addition. So, for today’s mental subtraction work, I would like you to have a go at using some coins as a practical resource again to help to generate your questions in a fun way!

Place some different coins into a pot again. Pick 2 coins e.g. 20p+5p, then pick another 2 coins e.g. 50p+2p. Then subtract mentally the smaller amount from the larger e.g. 52p-25p=27p

Just like last week, try to work out the answer mentally! If you can work with someone else at home, make it a little game and see who can get to the answer first!

If you’d like to make it more challenging, include larger coins in your pot or pick more coins to make larger amounts for your mental subtractions e.g

Have fun!

I look forward to hearing how you get on with your mental subtraction!

PE Challenge 7 from Pav

I know many of you enjoyed the challenge from last week! Charlie Anne had lots of fun with the challenge!

Here is this week’s challenge! Enjoy!

Song of the week

This week’s song is one of my all-time favourite, feel good songs! My children and I often have a good sing along with this song!

Singer songwriter Beccy Owen will get you singing and beatboxing along to her gorgeous arrangement of the iconic song, ‘Bare Necessities’, from Jungle Book.

I hope that you all have lots of fun!

Stop Press!

For tomorrow's Topic Tuesday work, if you would like some paper to be able to begin writing up your leaflet about the Broads, then there is a blue basket in the school foyer with paper bundled up with elastic band around. Please come along and take some if you will need it.

Please understand that your emails may not be responded to as quickly as normal because I am in school much more this week.

I really look forward to seeing your dragon eggs and other work from today, later on in the day!
