Friday

a) Times table Friday!

Draw this grid into your book, 11 squares by 11 squares, and then time yourself completing it.

Sub 4mins: Satisfactory   Sub 3mins: Good   Sub 2mins:  Very good   Sub 1min: Excellent!

x      3      6      4      9      7

3

9

12

b)  Some word problems today, using multiplication or division.  Decide which calculation is needed depending on what the problem means!

I've included answers to these at the bottom of the page, as here, you need to ensure that you've chosen the correct calculation to do!  Don't peek until you've finished!

Choose your level:

Brown belt level:

Show any multiplication working out on a grid.  Show any division working out on a number line.

1.  There are 78 tins in one box.  There are 6 boxes.  How many tins altogether?

2.  There are 78 chairs in a theatre.  They need to be put into 6 rows.  How many chairs will there be in each row?

3.  A £125 prize is won by Sophie, Max, Craig, Sarah and Jim.  They all need an equal share of the prize, so how much do they get each?

4.  Heidi, Isabelle, Henry, Robert and Darcy each contribute £125 to pay for their luxury holiday.  How much is the holiday costing altogether?

For these questions, write down the calculation you actually need to do to work out the missing number.

5.  3 x __ = 72                                 6.  __ x 4 = 56

7.  ___ ÷ 4 = 78                              8.  ___ ÷ 6 = 124

Black belt level:

Show any multiplication working out on a grid.  Show any division working out on a number line.

1.  There are 258 tins in one box.  There are 6 boxes.  How many tins altogether?

2.  There are 258 chairs in a theatre.  They need to be put into 6 rows.  How many chairs will there be in each row?

3.  A £625 prize is won by Sophie, Max, Craig, Sarah and Jim.  They all need an equal share of the prize, so how much do they get each?

4.  Heidi, Isabelle, Henry, Robert and Darcy each contribute £625 to pay for their luxury holiday.  How much is the holiday costing altogether?

For these questions, write down the calculation you actually need to do to work out the missing number.

5.  6 x __ = 138                               6.  __ x 8 = 256

7.  ___ ÷ 9 = 78                              8.  ___ ÷ 6 = 124

In your purple writing book:

c)  Complete the word of the day activity below.

d)  And to be perfectly honest, as Friday is forecast to be hotter again than Thursday, having undertaken some maths and English for today is probably quite enough!

Your choice!  If your keen to do some art....choose some art that interests you.

If you want to learn some history.....learn some history that interests you.

If you're in the mood for some sport (I love doing sport in the Sun), when was the last time you kicked a football and did some keepy-ups?  Or hit a tennis ball against a wall?

And if it's just too hot and you need to go and get in some cool water somewhere.....go for it!

But if you feel that anything in between the hours of 9am and 3pm really ought to be educational, why not look for fossils on West Runton beach?  Or look for what creatures you can find in a rock pool?

Answers to the maths:

the division symbol key seems to have stopped working on my computer!  So I'm using   /    below to mean divide!
