Phonics

Again this week we would like ALL children in Maple class to take time and look at the phonics.

It is important that you can see the different way that the sounds are written and become familiar with which words fit which pattern. We have added some new words that the Maple class are less familiar with to really test their phonic knowledge and spelling.

Mild challenge – focus on reading then writing ‘ow’ words first then ‘o-e’ words.

Medium and Hot – Parents to read the words out in the order below and Maple children to write. Remember to talk about what they feel ‘looks’ right.

Spellings

Everyone focus on Phonics and word patterns this week please.

English

Today you are going to enjoy another reading comprehension. Again it is in a Pdf format. If you have the facilities to print the document you can but it is not necessary as you can read from the screen then write the answers in your lined exercise book you were given.

'Plastic Pollution' reading comprehension (you can find this pdf in the extra resources section if you go back a page onto the days of the week page with the yellow stars).

This time try to read in your head silently. This is how we practised our reading comprehensions when we were last together.

Maths

Have fun today doing some active counting to warm your brain up. Can you count in 2s whilst doing star jumps?

Today we are rounding to the nearest 10.

Grown ups do rounding all the time, like when we are shopping. We often round 99p up to £1. It makes it easier to guess how much your shopping trolley might come to.

When we round numbers there is a RULE! Here it is as a poem!

5 and above, give it a shove

4 and below, let it go!

So if the number ends with a 1, 2, 3 or 4 round DOWN to the nearest 10.

If it ends with a 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 round UP!

There is an activity sheet to have a go at, or if you don’t have a printer try mine! I’ve done some for you!

You could use a 100 square to help you to see which tens are close to it!
