Welcome to Maple Class


Welcome back to school, we hope you all had a wonderful Easter!


Our learning theme for this term is: 'Oh I do like to be beside the seaside'


This term we will be learning about our local coastline and in particular a focus on Cromer,  we will be using photographs and maps of the local area and identify physical and human features. We will be finding out about a local hero, 'Henry Blogg' and his acts of bravery as a lifeboat man. We will investigate seaside holidays from the past and make comparisons with the present day.


Science: We are finding out about different habitats. We will explore how we can identify whether something is living, dead and has never been alive. We will make observations of different habitats and name a variety of plants and animals in their habitats.

Art: We will be learning different sketching techniques and using a range or pencils with different thicknesses as well as other media such as charcoal and pastels. We will make careful observational drawings of fossils, shells and rocks. 

Design Technology: We will be using the story of 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch' as our inspiration to help us design and make  a healthy sandwich. We will develop our skills of chopping, grating, spreading and peeling and learn about the importance of health and hygiene when preparing food. 

Music: We will be singing songs that relate to our learning theme. 

RE: We will learn about Judaism

Spanish: bWe will learn basic phrases

PE: Swimming (Year 1 1st half term and Year 2 2nd half term) Athletics and Dance

PSHE: Relationships and also our relationship with the environment


Homework is set on a Wednesday and needs to be handed in the following Monday. Please continue to support your child with their homework and encourage them to regularly read their book at least 3-4 times a week.
