Maple Class

Welcome back to school, we hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

Our learning theme for this term is: 'Fire! Fire!'

This term we will be learning about ‘The Great Fire of London’. As part of this learning we will find out about the chronology of events, how fire fighting equipment has evolved over the centuries and writing our own diary entries using Samuel Pepys diary to help us. We will also learn about where London is and other major cities in the UK. We will be creating some paintings depicting the Great Fire of London and we are hoping to display these in a public place for your enjoyment.

We will be launching our learning theme with an exciting fire engine visit and we are creating timber framed houses to create our own historical London scene.

Science: We are learning out the human body and healthy eating. We will explore healthy and unhealthy diets, the importance of exercise and labelling the different body parts.

Art: We will be learning different painting techniques and using these skills to blend and tone with paints. We will be creating the famous firescape.

Design Technology: We will research children’s books that have mechanisms and moving parts. We will use these ideas to inspire us to create a London scene with moving parts such as pop ups, sliders or flaps.

Music: We will be singing songs that relate to us ‘Just Like Me’ and learning to sing harmonies and rounds.

RE: We will learn about festivals and we will focus on the Jewish festival of Pesach and the Christian festival of Easter.

Spanish: We will learn basic phrases

PE: Games, Dance (linked to the Fire of London) and Forest Schools.

PSHE: We will be finding out about people who help us and also using the ‘PANTS’ lesson materials from the NSPCC.

Homework is set on a Wednesday and needs to be handed in the following Monday. Please continue to support your child with their homework and encourage them to regularly read their book at least 3-4 times a week.

Any questions or queries you may have please come and talk to Mrs Ashby or Miss Barrett at the beginning or end of the day. Appointments can also be made through the school office
