Cherry Tree Class in the Summer!
Summer Term already and the children are already becoming ready for Year One. They are able to listen and engage for longer periods, to both their teachers and their peers. They remain engaged and excited by their learning and also increasingly independent in their ability to find out more - not least through lots of questioning!
The Summer Term is always busy from our first school trip to Sports Day. Keep an eye out for some Open Mornings coming soon!
The Summer Term is all about our Down in the jungle theme. Both the jungle in our garden and that in the wider world Our learning will be supported by fiction and non-fiction texts such as The Little Seed, Oliver's Vegetables and The Lazy Ladybird. Using texts such as these and the wonderful outdoors we will learn about plants, including what they need and what they may grow into. This will provide a great starting point to consider healthy eating. Next a favourite theme - mini beasts. We will observe and examine mini beasts, where and how they live, and how to look after their habitats. With so many creepy crawlies our learning opportunities are endless!
Following this we venture into the real jungle, learning about the different animals that live there, what they eat, how they find food and how they hide. We will explore the countries they live in and compare this to our own.
We know that moving class, and taking that next step into Year One can be daunting and spend lots of time preparing the children for their next exciting stride along their learning journey.
This term the children will both consolidate and learn new sounds in Phonics. We continue to develop blending skills to both read and spell, moving from one word to full sentences. Please keep practising this at home as little and often makes such a difference. Remember the link below for Phonics sounds in case you are unsure upon how to pronounce them.
When Summer arrives, please ensure that your child has a water bottle, sun hat and adequate sun cream applied please! Thank you!
Remember to ensure that book bags are brought to school every day. Reading books will be changed twice a week, we will only change books that we know have been read indicated by your signature and comments in the Reading Record. Blue communication folders continue to go home on a Friday containing letters for the week. Any slips or money that need to be handed in can be returned in these folders on Monday morning.
Our PE lessons continue to be on a Wednesday, however please ensure that a fully labelled PE kit is in school at all times (white t-shirt, black shorts, plimsolls, and tracksuit in cold weather).
