Cherry Tree Class

Welcome to Cherry Tree Class!

What a fantastic start to the children's school year. All of the children have settled in brilliantly and have wonderful levels of engagement and motivation towards new experiences and learning.

As always we have a busy term ahead.  We start by thinking about Bonfire Night, including learning about why we have it, how fireworks can inspire our own creativity using different media and also how to be safe on one of the most exciting nights of the year!

(Don't forget the Halloween Disco too!)

Following Bonfire Night we journey into a

Winter Wonderland!

As Polar Explorers we will learn about what it may be like to live in cold places, how it is different to how we live and the animals we may find there.  Our learning will include being scientists as we make and explore ice, geographers creating and following maps and using information books and computers to learn about how animals survive in cold places.  With such eager explorers in the classroom who knows where our learning journey will take us!

And before we know it Christmas will be here!  As we prepare for our first Nativity in school we will learn to understand what Christmas is all about, and think about how others may celebrate Christmas around the world.  We will read and share stories to help guide our play and support our learning at a time of great festivity!

We will round off the term with our traditional Christmas Party - and apparently a special visitor may drop in...

if we have been good!

This term the children will be learning a much greater number of sounds in Phonics and will start to blend them so they can begin their journey towards learning to read.  Keep up the great practise at home - remember little and often will have huge benefits upon their reading skills.  Look out for an upcoming date on how to support your child's phonic and reading development, and if you are unsure on how to pronounce the sounds correctly see the link below for Phonics sounds.

Remember to ensure that book bags are brought to school every day. Reading books will be changed twice a week, we will only change books that we know have been read indicated by your signature and comments in the Reading Record.  Blue communication folders continue to go home on a Friday containing letters for the week. Any slips or money that need to be handed in can be returned in these folders on Monday morning.

Our PE lessons continue to be on a Wednesday, however please ensure that a fully labelled PE kit is in school at all times (white t-shirt, black shorts, plimsolls, and tracksuit in cold weather).
